I am going to try and convince you to buy timber flooring or Wool Carpet.
I would be lying if part of that wasn't because of the Wood and Wool Sale we are doing in partnership with flooring juggernauts Godfrey Hirst and Feltex. (As of April 2025)
But I also do genuinely think that for anyone with the means, timber flooring and wool carpet present one of the most appealing flooring packages for Australian homes, both in terms of their look and their functionality and sustainability.
Unlike many other options for your flooring, timber and wool carpets are mostly made from organic sources that (when sustainably harvested) present a product that is both of premium and luxury quality while also real.
Real in the sense that the wood from a tree and the wool from a sheep go straight to your home.
While, of course, there is more to it than that, with all the manufacturing and other processes, the crux is that, unlike options such as laminate or polyester carpets, these products come from nature, and that means that they are both good for the environment and lack many of the harmful chemicals that may seep into more artificial products that can have adverse effects to your health.

Why Interior Designers Choose Timber Flooring and Wool Carpet
According to many interior designers, a big reason why wood and wool flooring is so popular as materials is that it comes directly from nature and allows people to express themselves better through its designs.
This is maybe most obvious in timber flooring and its unique veining; many designers will emphasise and focus on the intricate details of each plank, with no two planks being the same and veining coming from decades of history.
It's why the concept of "Quiet Luxury" has been on such a rise, a design philosophy that emphasises the simple, understated beauty of high-quality materials, having faith that the materials themselves present enough depth without having to layer on too many extras.

From a practical point of view, there is a lot to love both in terms of the longevity of your product and the added value it brings to your home.
It's no secret that homes with higher-quality materials tend to hold value for longer and be easier to sell. By using high-quality timber and wool carpet flooring, you are investing in a product whose appeal will be timeless and weather any shifts in interior design trends. These materials have a history; from the early settlers all the way until now, timber and wool have always been desired, and 50 years in the future, it will likely be no different.
But even without the monetary incentives presented by hardwood or wool carpet flooring. A big part of why many are choosing wool and wood flooring is because of their longevity.
With the proper care and maintenance (Something very important for all flooring, honestly), wool carpets can last over 20 years. This is due to a variety of different factors, such as:
Wood flooring is almost better than carpet flooring in this regard, lasting even 30 years, depending on the right quality and care.
Regularly sweep or vacuum to remove dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a damp microfiber mop with a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner. Ensure the mop is well-wrung to avoid excess moisture.
Engineered timber flooring consists of a real hardwood veneer atop multiple layers of plywood or high-density fiberboard, offering enhanced stability and resistance to moisture compared to solid hardwood.
Use a damp (not wet) mop with a suitable wood floor cleaner. Avoid excessive water, as it can damage the timber. Always dry the floor promptly after mopping.
No. Engineered timber has a real wood surface, while hybrid flooring combines a photographic layer with a rigid core, making it more water-resistant but lacking the authentic wood feel.
There are a variety of different factors that can affect this. Still, generally, in Australia, timber floorboards typically range from $40 to $100 per square metre, depending on the wood species and quality. Timber flooring is generally more expensive than other hard flooring options.
With proper care, high-quality timber can last for 30 years, often outlasting other hard flooring alternatives.
Vacuum regularly using a suction-only vacuum. For spills, blot immediately with a clean cloth and use a wool-safe carpet cleaner as needed. Avoid excessive moisture.
Blot the area to remove excess moisture. Apply a solution of water, mild dish soap, and white vinegar. Gently blot the stain and rinse with clean water. Dry thoroughly.
Wool carpets are generally hypoallergenic, meaning they are unlikely to cause allergic reactions. They can trap dust and allergens, preventing them from circulating in the air, which may benefit allergy sufferers.
Yes, water can cause stains on wool carpets if not dried properly due to mineral residues. Promptly blot and dry any spills to prevent staining.
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause wool carpets to fade over time. Using window coverings can help minimise this effect.
Various factors can affect this, but generally, prices vary based on quality and brand, typically ranging from $50 to $90 per square metre in Australia.
With proper care, high-quality wool carpets can last for over 20 years, often outlasting synthetic alternatives.
